2015 Trinidad
Robin joined me on my international consulting assignment in Trinidad. While the assignment kept me very busy we had time for a unique opportunity to witness giant leatherback turtles laying eggs at Matura Beach. Tour was led by a small group of villagers, who are members of an authorized local turtle protection group, this tour allowed us to observe the annual egg-laying without disturbing the animals.
We explored the vibrant ecosystem of Trinidad during this half-day boat tour through the Caroni Wetlands. We traversed the mangrove forests, lagoons, and waterways to discover dozens of species of plants and animals such as snakes, anteaters, snowy egrets, crustaceans, and much more. This tour is a must do for bird watchers as it is possible to see many species of birds flying overhead and living in the wetland area. The highlight was witnessing the return of the Red Ibis to their nesting site.
